Drake State Cyber Security Students Participate in GEO-Energy Summit

J.F. Drake State Community and Technical College recently provided an opportunity for nine of its Cyber Security students to participate in the GEO-Energy Summit held at the Davidson Center in Huntsville, sponsored by Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.

Students gained valuable insight into the changing world of technology through various workshops and lectures with topics such as Business Energy, Future Energy, and Future of the Grid.  Students also took advantage of networking opportunities with conference speakers and professional attendees, some of whom expressed an interest in Drake State and a willingness to develop working relationships with the college.

“Our students learned of the need to improve the management of data collection, in order to organize data into information that will assist in developing energy sources now and in the future,” stated Mr. Ronald Egson, Computer Information Systems Instructor at Drake State. “No matter what topics were discussed, they all related to Drake State’s CIS program in some form or another.”

The conference was attended by government, industry and educational agencies and institutions and began with a welcome address by Mayor Battle, followed by keynote speaker Mr. Robert Cardillo, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
