Drake State is Proud to Honor Lisa Vick

J.F. Drake State Community & Technical College is proud to honor Lisa Vick, a Drake State Alumnus as well as current Student Support Services TRiO Program Assistant.  Ms. Vick’s hard work has earned her the attention of the Women’s Economic Development Council (WEDC) Foundation and with their support, she will join a great group of scholars who have participated in their Scholar/Mentor Program.

The WEDC’s mission is to empower women in our community to achieve self-sufficiency and economic independence by providing mentors, development programs, and financial assistance through grants and scholarships.  Over the last several years, Drake State has supported the WEDC in an effort to create a legacy of strong and confident women who will share their energy and influence, resulting in economic independence for themselves and others.

According to Lesley-Anne Eng Stapler, another Drake State Alumnus who is currently working in Drake State’s financial aid department and also a WEDC Scholar, “Lisa Vick was a perfect candidate for this scholarship.  She works very hard, always eager to learn while caring about the success of others.” Mrs. Stapler added, “Miss Vick will certainly pay it forward every chance she gets which is what the WEDC wants to see happen with these already motivated and empowered women.”

The WEDC expects from all of their scholars a legacy of giving back, sharing resources and improving the community.  Every woman should have the opportunity to find her greatness, as she defines it.  Ms. Vick said, “The power of encouragement, tolerance and understanding is the core belief of WEDC adding that community and inclusion is a shared value she passes on to Drake State students every day at the college.  “A support circle can build confidence and make opportunities known and real” she stated, “and Drake State’s Student Support Services team and the WEDC are a lot alike in that regard.”
