Drake State Students Place at National SkillsUSA Competition




Four students from J.F. Drake State Technical College placed in the top ten at the recent SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC) in Kansas City, Mo.
     NLSC is a showcase of career and technical education students.  Drake State students placed in the following events: Forrest Teague, ninth place in Welding; Brett Byrom, ninth place in Culinary Arts; Victor Harlow, ninth place in Computer Programming; and Charles Potter, eighth place in Technical Drafting. Forrest Teague qualified for pre-world weld off in Atlanta.            
     SkillsUSA programs include local, state and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills. At the annual national-level SkillsUSA championships, more than 5,000 students compete in 94 occupational and leadership skill areas.
     SkillsUSA programs also help to establish industry standards for job skill training in the lab and classroom and promote community service.
