Drake State to Observe Modified Four Day Work Week for Summer

(Huntsville, Alabama) – Beginning June 1, 2009, Drake State will begin working a modified four day work week. This change will impact administration, staff, and most of the College’s programs. The hours will be Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

After researching previous course offerings and meetings with faculty leaders, administration determined that this plan could be implemented without disruption to the normal offering of summer courses. Friday was determined to be the day of the week with the fewest number of classes. The plan is considered “modified” as buildings necessary to accommodate those programs that do not lend themselves to a shorter week will remain open and those faculty members, along with a representative from the administration, will report as scheduled. However, most buildings on the campus will be closed.

“Providing the educational opportunities necessary to continue the development of the Tennessee Valley workforce is the highest priority at Drake State. We have been challenged to evaluate every aspect of our operation in order to provide this training as efficiently as possible. Finding more energy- efficient measures by which to operate our campuses is one area we are constantly evaluating”, comments Drake State President, Dr. Helen McAlpine.

Drake State is currently registering students for the Summer Session through May 29. For more information about registration dates and times or a copy of the current summer schedule, please visit the College’s website at:
