Drake State Welding Students Receive Professional Certification

Students enrolled in the J.F. Drake State Community and Technical College welding program participated in the 2014 Advanced Welding Workshop sponsored by Local 372 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union on October 24th

The welding students received seven hours of professional level training and certification. They also met with representatives from companies such as McAbee Construction, who attended the event to recruit new talent on the spot.

“Receiving this training was a great opportunity for our students because they’ve learned to produce professional level work,” said Mr. Ryan Green, instructor of welding at Drake State. “Having these skills makes our students extremely valuable in an industry where the amount of work is greater than the number of highly trained workers.”

Welding offers high-paying career opportunities at both a local and national level with demand for these technicians often exceeding the supply of workers according the Department of Labor. Technical training programs such as the one offered at Drake State help to foster interest in the trade and provide students with a proficiency level that enables employers to hire program graduates with confidence.
