New Mr. & Ms. Drake State Crowned


Drake State has crowned a new Mr. and Ms. Drake State to represent the college for the 2011-2012 school year.  Jairus Morrow was crowned Mr. Drake State and Grace Douglass was crowned Ms. Drake State.  As Mr. and Ms. Drake State, Morrow and Douglass serve on the Student Government Association Executive Committee, represent the college at community functions and assist with college outreach events.  Mr. and Ms. Drake State were chosen based on scores accumulated by a 50% vote of the student body and a cumulative score from a panel of judges in the areas of introductory speech, talent and formalwear.  The judges also selected their choices for the Mr. and Ms. Photogenic Awards based on photographs submitted for judging.  The contestants selected a Mr. GQ and Ms. Congeniality for the male and female contestant with the best attitude throughout the process.

Jairus Morrow is a graduate of Johnson High School.  He is currently enrolled in the Industrial Electronics program seeking an associate degree.   Morrow has already proven a valuable leader on the campus having served on the Student Government Association for the 2010-2011 Academic Year and as a Student Ambassador representing the college at a variety of community events.  He was also elected by the student body to serve as the President of the Student Government Association for the 2011-2012 Academic Year.

Grace Douglass is a native of Rochester, New York.  She is currently enrolled in the Barbering Program at Drake State and has a passion for making people look and feel their best.  Douglass also won the talent  portion of the competition for her modern dance interpretation of Lauryn Hill’s,  A Change is Gonna Come.  Douglass has already served one year on the Student Government Association as the Secretary/Treasurer and as a Student Ambassador.
