What Is WorkKeys?
WorkKeys® is a comprehensive skills analysis and assessment system developed by ACT. The WorkKeys system is used nationwide by employers and educational institutions to identify the skills employees, potential employees, and students require in order to be successful in the workplace. Additionally, WorkKeys is used to develop and evaluate training and educational needs: thereby, further creating a more effective and efficient workforce. WorkKeys measures “real world” skills that employers believe are critical to job success. These skills are valuable for any occupation-skilled or professional-and at any level of education.
WorkKeys and the Career Readiness Certificates (CRC)
The Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) is part of the State of Alabama’s Worker Credentialing Initiative through the Governor’s Office and the Workforce Development Office. The CRC is awarded based on an individual’s competency in three areas: Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information. The categories in which the certificates will be awarded are Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. These certificates will verify that the individual has been assessed in WorkKeys and that he/she possesses the necessary skills required to perform effectively in the workplace. The levels (scores) required for each certificate category are as follows:
Bronze Certificate = Level 3
Silver Certificate = Level 4
Gold Certificate = Level 5
Platinum Certificate = Level 6
Pre and Post Testing
During Orientation to College (ORI 101), the pre-test will be given and should be completed by the date specified by your instructor. Post-test will be given prior to graduation in Workplace Skills Orientation (WKO 107) for students who do not receive the Platinum Certificate on the pre-test. In order for a student to receive credit for Orientation 100(ORI 100) and WorkKeys 107 (WKO107) ALL 3 parts of the WorkKeys assessment must be completed by the deadline (TBA). The Career Readiness Certificates will be awarded by the State Department of Education after scores are received.
