Huntsville, Ala. – Drake State Technical
College is offering students and the community two options to learn
about entrepreneurship. Potential entrepreneurs can receive one-on-one
consulting with entrepreneurial consultant and Women’s Business Center
of North Alabama president, Joanne Randolph or enroll in the national
entrepreneurial program FastTrac, which will be offered starting June
19.
Randolph will provide free personal
consultations regarding business practices in the areas of finance,
marketing, and business planning on the Drake campus.
“Learning a skill is only half the equation
if you want to run a successful business,” stated Randolph. “You must
also have sound business practices.”
Under Randolph’s leadership, the Women’s
Business Center was selected as the 2007 Non-Profit of the Year by the
Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. Randolph also served as
the former president and CEO of BizTech, Huntsville’s technology
incubator.
In addition to Randolph’s entrepreneurial
services, Drake will be the first college in the area to offer a
national entrepreneurial program called FastTrac. The accelerated
business boot camp for entrepreneurs, “Planning the Entrepreneurial
Venture,” was developed by the Ewing Marion Kauffman foundation in
partnership with Cisco Learning Institute (CLI). The class is scheduled
to begin on Thursday, June 19 and meet from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
The course is designed to combine online
content with traditional classroom instruction. Topics for the course
include: defining business concepts, recognizing opportunities, market
planning, financial planning, testing feasibility, and the business
plan. The class will culminate with students presenting their final
business plans.
For more information on either of these
entrepreneurial assistance opportunities, call the Drake workforce and
adult education division at 551-1712.
