NFL Hall of Famer to speak at Drake State Commencement

 

Rayfield WrightDrake State Technical College will hold its commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the north hall of the Von Braun Center (VBC). Over 150 graduates will receive certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees during the ceremony. This is the first Drake commencement to be held in the VBC.

Rayfield Wright, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will serve as the graduation speaker. Wright is widely considered one of the best offensive tackles in the history of the NFL. As a 13 year veteran of the legendary Dallas Cowboys, Wright’s leadership abilities helped lead the Cowboys to 5 Super Bowls and 2 AFC-NFC World Championships. In August of 2006, he was the 235th legend to be forever enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH, along with Troy Aikman, Harry Carson, John Madden, Warren Moon and Reggie White.

Wright is currently the president of PetroSun, LLC, a minority-owned, all-inclusive oil production corporation and sponsor of the Independence Bowl, CEO of Wright’s Sports and Nutrition, president of The Rayfield Wright Foundation, and the co-author of his autobiography titled Wright Up Front.

During the ceremony, Pastor O. Wendell Davis of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Commissioner Bob Harrison of the Madison County Commission District Six office, and Jim Hood of PPG Industries will be recognized for their supportive partnerships with Drake.

The event is free and open to the public.
