Another student organization has been added to the campus of Drake State
Technical College. The Amateur Radio Club, initiated by the industrial
electronics program, was started in the 2007 fall semester.
The purpose of the club is to promote experimentation in electronics
communication through the amateur radio art, assist its members in
developing advance technical skills, provide community service by
volunteering communication assistance to disaster relief agencies and
other worthy civic organizations, and develop goodwill in the community
in association with the Amateur Radio Relay League, Huntsville Amateur
Radio Club, Amateur Radio Emergency Service, and the National Weather
Service.
The following students have been installed as Amateur Radio Club
officers: Matthew Davis, president; Keith D. Garrett, vice-president;
Warren Powell, secretary; and Kenneth Hill, treasurer.
Club advisor and electronics technology instructor, Karl Henry,
encourages any Drake student, alumnus, or employee to become a member if
they are willing to train or have successfully completed the Technician
Class FCC licensure exam. Licensed amateur radio operators who are
interested in mentoring students or fostering the goals of the club are
also invited to join the organization. For more information contact Karl
Henry at 551.1709 or
