Program Description, Mission, and Objectives

The mission of the Management Program is to prepare students for employment or advancement in management and management support positions by providing learning experiences in principles of management, human resource management, small business management practices, fundamental accounting principles and internet usage along with critical thinking and problem solving experiences.

The program awards the Certificate and Associate in Applied Technology degree.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Management Program may become employed in any general management area such as administrative services manager, entrepreneur, or assistant administrator.

Skills Needed

Students are exposed to and develop skills related to principles of accounting, principles of management, human resources management and microcomputer applications. A successful human resource manager must recognize the processes necessary to complete a job in addition to understanding and having the ability to work with people.

The varied levels of certification allow each student to customize the amount of training he/she desires based on individual career goals.  The basic Career Skills certificate may be utilized as a means for immediate entry into the workforce or serve as a starting point for the Career Entry Certificate.  In most cases, the credits received from one certificate level will transfer to a program of a higher level.

Drake State has established articulation agreements with Alabama A&M University, Athens State University and The University of Alabama in Huntsville to assist students who desire to pursue a baccalaureate degree upon completion of an Associate Degree in Applied Technology from Drake State.
