Barbering

The Barbering program at Drake State combines classroom theory with hands-on practice in the laboratory. The program is designed to provide qualified individuals the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, aptitude, and skills to pursue a career in barbering. Upon completion of the barbering program, students can obtain licenses by successfully passing the Alabama Board of Barbering Exam. After one year of holding an Alabama Barbering License, students can enroll in Barbering Instructor Training Courses.

Barbering earnings

A graduate of the Barbering program can become employed as a barber, platform artist, or barbershop owner depending on the program option selected. After gaining experience in a shop/salon environment, graduates can build enough clientele to one day open their own businesses. Other opportunities include teaching in a vocational educational setting or becoming a sales representative.

According to Lightcast Economic Modeling, the median salary for a barbering career is $30,079.
