Workforce Development

Workforce Education

Drake State has partnered with Amesite Inc., a leading artificial intelligence software company offering a cloud-based learning platform for business and education markets to offer specialized training programs to foster industry learning and professional development to meet the needs of our industry partners.

Build your workforce

Drake State is committed to serving its community as the primary provider of workforce development education and training. Through its Office of Workforce Development, the College provides a number of services and programs designed for employers located in the College’s service area in two ways:

  • Training for existing business and industry
  • Continuing education and adult skills training

Supporting local industries

Drake State works with local businesses and industries to establish courses and programs dedicated to specifically identified community employment and cross-training needs. Local industries are contacted on a regular basis to determine their training concerns and to share Drake State’s training capabilities.

Industry partners regularly seek specialized training from the College through our existing training resources. From there, the College assesses market demand for the local service area and determines the training that we should provide, whether through Alabama Workforce Solutions programs or regular program instruction. The College also partners with Alabama Industrial Department Training (AIDT) to provide customized training for new and expanding industries in Huntsville-Madison County, Alabama.

Huntsville Utilities Gas and Water Operations Program

Drake State is proud to announce its collaboration with Huntsville Utilities to introduce the Gas and Water Operation Certification Scholarship Program. This innovative four-week program aims to provide alternative pathways to entering the workforce and enrich the pool of potential candidates for gas and water operation careers at Huntsville Utilities and other prospective local employers.

The Gas and Water Operation Certification Program will equip students with the essential skills and knowledge required for successful careers in the gas and water operations sector. The curriculum covers various topics, including Class B CDL training, basic welding, OSHA 10, first-aid, CPR, leadership, basic computer training, and basic mathematics.

As part of this partnership, Huntsville Utilities will fund scholarships that cover tuition, materials and supplies, facility fees, advertising, and student meals for program participants. In addition to financial support, Huntsville Utilities will provide crucial job training and mentorship to scholarship recipients from the College through our existing training resources.
